Civil Design Engineer

Position Snapshot
Provides engineering support for concrete reinforcing sales activities including development of structural welded wire reinforcement drawings, and rebar to structural mesh conversion calculations in market expansion activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
An individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.
 
  • Performs rebar to engineered structural mesh (ESM) conversions and shop drawings as necessary through use of computer-aided design (CAD) and proprietary software to support sales requirements and ESM product designs. (70%)
    • Professional presentations of conversions include the utilization of AutoCAD, spreadsheets, engineering calculations, and typed correspondence.
    • Provides conversion calculations that facilitate economic manufacturing.
    • Provides takeoff and shop drawing preparation services  
    • Participation in the process by which customer expectations are managed and satisfied
    • Technical comprehension of customer-provided information to the degree necessary for preparation of competitive ESM drawings, and the tactful and effective communication skills necessary to foster this comprehension and maintain customer trust.
    • Provision of detail on ESM documents and drawings that is thorough, accurate, and complete in proportion to the level of customer-information provided for our use, and consistent in its presentation for Insteel sales interpretation.
    • Productivity facilitated by a balance of initiative-taking and good organizational skills.
  • Develops new products to utilize ESM in structural applications and provides necessary marketing information to enhance ESM product growth.  Enhances the company’s image as “a leader of the industry” in ESM. (10%)
  • Participate in code and industry association activities as assigned. (10%) 
  • Travels with outside sales personnel to provide technical assistance at the customer level to guide company’s service and quality requirements, improve market penetration and improve company profit.  (10%)

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or similar;
  • Broad knowledge of general Civil Engineering preferred.
  • A minimum of basic working knowledge of CAD required.
